Beware of Spam Attacks on Facebook. Nobody will give you Free iPad

The Above Picture shows the Example of the Fake Spam Invitation to get Free iPad

Have you recently received invitations promising you a free iPad?. Don't fall for them. They are all scams to steal your personal information which will further be used to send more marketing mails and invitations to you. Such spam attacks have increased a lot in the past month. I've received Facebook private messages that appeared to be from a friend inviting me to an event titled “Get @iPad_ for Free Event!!”. Other users have reported wall messages and status updates with phrases like “you are missing something if you don't check this website, I received a free iPad for real”. Similar spam messages have also appeared on Twitter

If you see any messages like this, please ignore them and don't spread them so the spam doesn’t spread. Sometimes your trusted friend might have sent you that but remember that his or her account could be hacked. Let them know so they can change their passwords. Speaking true I’d love a free iPad but I can’t imagine any company is just randomly giving them for no reasons. So be a Social citizen of Facebook by avoiding and reducing spam.

By 2014, social networking services will replace e-mail as the primary vehicle for interpersonal communications for 20 percent of business users. This is one of the 5 predictions for 2010 by Gartner, world's leading information technology research and advisory company. Matt Cain, research vice president at Gartner, went on to add, “The rigid distinction between e-mail and social networks will erode. E-mail will take on many social attributes, such as contact brokering while social networks will develop richer e-mail capabilities, while e-mail is already almost fully penetrated in the corporate space, we expect to see steep growth rates for Social Networking websites and cloud-based social networking services.”

Your Brain can’t handle more than 150 Facebook friends - New Mashable

Facebook, Inc.
You may have 5,000 friends on Facebook but humans brain has a capacity to manage only 150 friends according to a recent study by Dunbar.

Robin Dunbar, professor of Evolutionary Anthropology at Oxford University  is best known for formulating Dunbar's number, roughly 150, a measurement of the "cognitive limit to the number of individuals with whom any one person can maintain stable relationships.

Even while social networking sites allow us to maintain more relationships, the number of meaningful friendships is the same as it has been throughout history.

The Theory of “Dunbar’s number” came in 1990 claiming that the size of our neocortex - the part of the brain used for conscious thought and language  limits us to managing social circles of around 150 friends, no matter how sociable we are.

These relatiponships means you know how each of the 150 friends are connected to each other and they know what you do and where you are and contact you atleast once a year.

So think twice next time before accepting a friend request or sending a request if you really want to be friend with the person an will you be able to maintain the relationship by atleast knowing whats going on in the life of our friend.

I personally keep a limited no of facebook friends upto 100 whom I know personally but I am not against having several hundred friends including relatives, business contacts and other acquaintances.
